Guard is a dead position in MMA
People who play guard in MMA are a dying breed, basically they are getting killed in their fights. Have a think of the MMA fights you have seen, now consider how many you have seen where a person has been tapped out from inside guard. This is because most people in MMA are well versed in submission defence and can survive in the guard of a more skilled BJJ player. While the guard player is going for subs and sweeps from their back, the person on top is punching and elbowing their way to victory. At the end of the day if you are on your back you are losing the fight – regardless of what type of fight it is.
